He was such a gift. Thank you for sharing him & these precious memories with so many people. He was an incredible science teacher who kept me interested in science and we certainly wouldn't be the drivers we are without his wisdom. I'll never forget his flying stories in class. My sincere condolences to the family. May God bring you peace and comfort through this time.

Jim was such a nice man and he will be missed.
He had a favourite chair to sit in when he came for funerals...nice and comfortable and at the back beside the piano.
We often wondered how many of the coins we found it were his.

What a wonderful person Jim was! Always ready for a chit chat and armed with many stories about his own adventures or someone else. My favourite is when he and Leona were returning home from a big cruise overseas. While awaiting a flight home from the Bangkok airport, a lady approached him and started chatting, "because he looked like a friendly farmer." She was from Stratford and when he announced he was from Brussels she asked Jim if he knew me as she, too, was an RN. Jim said if he wasn't already sitting down, he would have fallen over! I can only imagine the look on his face! So, within a few days of arriving home, Jim was sure to seek me out and ask me if my ears were burning recently and told me the story. He says, even in Bangkok your name comes up. Thanks Jim. May you rest well. A pleasure to have known you.

Sympathies to the Armstrong families.
People say that you don’t live on because of a tombstone or cenotaph; but through the works you give to your community. Obviously Jim was an integral part of making this photo happen. ( Sorry for the quality; it is a photo taken from the 1989 MDHS yearbook). Somehow I was chosen to go along on what was to be my first plane ride when that photo was taken. I will always have that memory. Sounds like you made an impact on a great many people through the donation of your time and talent. Rest In Peace. Jim. Wayne Mueller. Former student of MDHS and of Jim’s.

To all Jim’s Family
Mr. Armstrong was my favourite High School teacher because he made learning interesting. It was also very cool that he flew his airplane to school! After moving to Walton I often ran into him at various functions and our band played for Leona when she became the first female warden of Huron County in 1986. I also had the honour to care for him at Huronlea. My deepest condolences to the family.

Our deepest sympathy to the extended Armstrong family on the passing of your beloved Jim. Jim was a wonderful human being and family man …. highly loved and respected by all … devoted high school teacher and mentor and pillar of strength in the Brussels Community with his life-long contributions to the Lion’s Club and Church. The true definition of a Gentleman, Jim was that person who folks who knew him wanted to emulate. He was instrumental in encouraging me to become a high school science teacher as well and was my terrific role model associate teacher while I was interning at Mitchell High School while attending Althouse Teacher’s College in
London in the early ‘70’s. I will never forget his quiet respectful words of wisdom and helpful professional teaching advice. He was born to be a teacher and his students were so fortunate to have been in his classes.
Jim will never be forgotten. Heartfelt condolences.

I want to express my sympathies to all of Jim’s family on his passing. He was a wonderful friend of our parents and we enjoyed many good times together. Jim snuck me away for a ride in his plane on one of those occasions and I know he did the same for so many more!!! I also remember being there for the first flight of the plane he built!!!! What an awesome experience that was!!!
Our family farm was right on the route Jim flew to school. We would be standing at the end of the lane waiting for our bus in the morning when he would fly over, always waving to us!!!!
He put the bug in me to get a pilots licence and he was the first person I thanked when I got my wings!!!!
Thank you for everything Jim, I hope your next flights are ones to dream about!!!
