Evelyn Carlson posted a condolence

Dear Myke and family, Ron and Velma, Bruce and Anna,
I was a little Willis girl in Atwood, lived on King St and Don’s mom gave me my first cut and my ringlets were gone forever.
Don and I laughed hilariously about childhood days in Atwood as we shared together when he came to our brother Lloyd’s memorial last September in Atwood. It was so wonderful that the Hamilton boys came to visit us and remember Lloyd.
I can only imagine how you and your family will miss this happy and gentle man. I pray your memories will be precious and that you will have peace and your love of each other to carry you through this journey of grief.
Please accept our condolences and sincere sympathy.
Eve (Evelyn Willis) Carlson, Kelowna BC
Mary (Willis) Colquhoun-Nind, Kitchener
David and Candace(Kidd) Willis, Campbell River, BC

To Myke, and All of your Family. We are sending you our very deepest sympathy. No one will know how much you will miss that bright smiling face. We remember him dancing the night away at an anniversary, and Myke saying"you'll regret it in the morning". But he enjoyed himself, laughing and talking and living life!! Wouldn't the world be so much better if everyone had that optimistic personality? Again, our thoughts are with you. George and Melody.

When you say Don never met a person he didn't know that person was always grateful after that they came to know him.
I can't remember the date I met "Smiley" but we never forgot who the other was.
I can honestly say he was one of the people I admired most in my life and we have both been around about the smae length of time.
We always remembered something that one of us did when we worked together and got one more laugh out of life.
I will miss seeing him.

Our deepest sympathies to you Myke and all the family. Got to know Smiley through Jean (John), every time him and Jerome would come home from the west we would hear all about the meet ups you had both going west, one going west the other east, but always took the time to stop for coffee or a meal. I’ve never seen the man other than with a smile on his face and made light of every situation no matter how difficult. It’s been a pleasure to call you friend and in our secret way despite John you were my boyfriend and we always joked about it, always so happy to receive a great big hug from you. You will be forever missed by your wife, family and friends and I bet now your looking down on us smiling and thinking keep on truckin’.
You are all in our thoughts and prayers
Luv John, Patricia, Angelika, Jacqueline, Julian aka jasper, Jerome and Suzie

I remember while growing up going to Toronto with Don on the milk truck. He would pick me up at 4 a.m and away we’d go. Also remember the yellow Plymouth coming to our place with the young guys going touring. Many fond memories of him.

In his younger days in Atwood he was one of the first ones to get a car and used to drive Hugh Wagner, Klaas Hiemstra, and myself (Doug Schroeder) to the big town of Listowel and sometimes further. A couple bucks from each for gas and they’d be good for the night. Smiley started his good nature in his teenage years and just carried on throughout his life.
