I had the pleasure of cross country skiing with her once and could barely keep up! I was inspired by Betty that for her own pleasure and others she painted and played the organ. A dear friend and fellow bridge player of my late mother-in-law Pat Sparling, Betty was certainly treasured by our family. Our sympathies are with the Battie family at this time.

I never met anyone like Betty Battye. She was always a pleasure to be with no matter where or when we met. Mostly it was in Killarney Provincial Park where we shared so many hours together. In winter it was at the annual celebration in February snowshoeing on George Lake, in the spring it was at the annual Clean-up weekend in May (we planted trees), in summer I visited her many times at her Blue Heron campsite, and in autumn it was at the Friends of Killarney Park Board meeting. I stopped in Blythe on my way the Lake Huron a few times and once Betty gave me a tour of the family home. She showed me so many family photos I couldn't keep up with the names. She was so proud of her family. I met a few family members too over the years and it wasn't hard to recognize the warmth they inherited from their Mom or Grandmother. Wherever Betty was she was a leader. She inspired me. Wherever she has gone, she will light the way for others too. Thank you Betty, with all my love, Murray O'Brien..

Many happy memories of staff and spouse gatherings, adult "volleyball?" nights and many memorable stories from the days that my former husband , Bill Marsh, taught there. I also have often driven by the house on the corner and wondered what she was up to. I'm sure Betty is still counting butterflies and enjoying the hikes! Thoughts and prayers are with all of the family.

Mrs. Battye,
I can't begin to describe what an influence you had on my years at Blythe Public School. Gymnastics, sports, a strong female mentor. I often drove past the home you lived in on the corner and wondered what fantastic things you have been up to. You are someone that will stay with me forever. Thank you for being the kind of human that I am proud to tell my own kids about with a smile on my face. May everyone encounter their own Mrs. Battye at least once in their lives. My sincere condolences to the family.

Betty was my friend’s Mom, my Mom’s friend and one of the strongest, most independent women I ever knew. I have always been amazed at her strength and her resilience. She did more after she retired than most people manage to do in a lifetime.
To John, Chris, Mark, Rachel, Andy, Catherine and of course Frances I offer my sympathy and support at this difficult time.

Blyth Public School was a staple in my life in my later elementary school days. The time there will always be with me for the rest of my life. There are many things I do not remember in life, but the experiences at Blyth Public School...both friends and teachers made a life long impression and Mrs Battye was very much a part of that! This past year was a 40th reunion of grade 8 graduation for many from Blyth Public School.. many students who to this day remain friends, or have become friends... Mrs Battye was one of those teachers who I venture to say all of this group remember dearly. R.I.P. My thoughts and condolences are with your family, friends, colleagues, students and all who knew you!
