Mary Elizabeth (McInnes) Thornton, formerly of Gorrie, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Wingham & District Hospital. Born in Ashfield Township on June 27, 1923, Mary was in her 87th year. Beloved wife of the late Jack Thornton. Dear mother of Helen Edge and her husband Gary of Waterloo, Don Thornton and his wife Tena of Gorrie, Allan Thornton of Gorrie, Mae Hutchison and her fiance Glen Gallaher of Gorrie, Shirley Whitehead and her husband Glenn of Wingham, Dianne Krotz of Listowel and Murray Thornton of Gorrie. Dear sister of Dan and Anne McInnes of Blyth and sister in law of Largaret McInnes of Kincardine. Also loved by her 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Predeceased by her daughter Evelyn, parents Robert and Marie McInnes and her brother Bill McInnes. Friends may call from 1PM until time of the funeral service which will be conducted from the Gorrie Visitation Centre of the Schimanski Family Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 20 at 2:00 PM. Spring interment in Gorrie Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Gorrie United Church or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
